Solar Power
How does a solar power system work?

Solar photovoltaic modules (solar panels) use a special kind of silicon to convert sunlight into DC electricity.
An inverter is then installed either externally or internally to convert the electricity into 240V AC electricity.
This electricity produced is then used to power your house. If you are connected to the electricity grid and you are producing more than you are using, the excess electricity is fed back into the grid and a
bi-directional meter records the amount of power which you export. Most electricity retailers will credit you 44 cents per Kw/h on to your electricity account (this is around double what you pay for power).
If you are using more than the solar panels can produce (eg at night time) then your power simply comes from the grid as normal and you get charged by your electricity retailer at normal rates.
If you don’t have access to electricity via the grid, the excess power is usually stored in a battery bank. A standalone (off grid) power system is custom designed by our solar experts.
Can I see how much power the solar panels produce?
Yes, your inverter has an inbuilt display that will calculate the amount of power that is being produced.
